What About Sugar?

Quite often, people ask me, "What about sugar." Most people know that sugar is not good for them, but what they are really asking is, "can I still lose weight if I am eating sugar?"  The answer is "yes," as long as you are eating lower than a 30% fat calorie percentage, and eating at least 25-35 grams of fiber every day.  But...if you are eating a ton of sugar everyday, perhaps you are a soda addict, you could lose weight faster if you cut back on your sugar.  Why?  Because an excess of sugar eventually turns into fat, especially if you have a glucose problem.   

Most people can eat sugar without gaining weight, but if you are one of those people who has a glucose problem, then sugar could be contributing to your weight gain.  People who cut back on their sugar intake, generally lose a few pounds, but don't see huge weight loss results.  

What are people also lowering when they give up sugar?  You guessed it, fat.  All those sugary treats usually have a ton of fat in them.  So when people lose weight by giving up sugar, they are also losing weight by lowering their fat calorie percentage!  Fat is the biggest contributor to gaining weight, and is the biggest contributor to losing weight!  

Healthier substitutes for sugar would be honey or organic agave.  These still turn acidic into your body like sugar does, but they are healthier on a molecular level...which we will discuss in some future post!
