Sea Salt or Not?

Should we limit our salt intake?  Well that depends on what kind of salt you are eating.  Not all salt is the same.  In fact if you are sprinkling white table salt or white sea salt on your food, you might want to consider switching to natural Real Sea Salt, also known as Celtic Sea Salt. 

So what's the difference between white table salt and pink sea salt?

White table salt is highly processed, full of fluoride, ant-caking agents, excessive amounts of potassium iodide and aluminum which is known to be highly toxic.  These additives cause discoloration in salt, thus bleaching agents are used to restore it to a beautiful white color.  (Did you know you were sprinkling bleach and all these chemicals over your food with a simple shake?)  This beautiful white color
could be harming our bodies and our children's bodies who are still trying to develop.   Beautiful white often can be very deceiving.  (white bread, white dairy milk, white sugar)  Just because it's white, doesn't mean it is good for you. 

Take a look at unrefined sea salt (pinkish in color) which still has up to 94 trace minerals such as magnesium, potassium, calcium and other nutrients
intact.  Sea salt is obtained through the evaporation of seawater and is not processed (will have a pinkish colored crystal look).  Not only does sea salt not raise blood pressure, it actually helps lower it.  It also helps with weight loss, reduces cravings, reduces cellulite, improves blood sugar levels, relieves arthritis pain and prevents and reduces varicose veins. 

How much is too much?  Current scientific research suggests that there are few salt-related health problems.  In fact the latest thinking that our body can function on no salt at all or on restricted amounts, could be causing more problems than it tries to solve.  Sea salt, or sodium chloride, plays a huge role in digestion and absorption.  Salt activates the first enzyme in the mouth, salivary amalase and helps start digestion by breaking down food.  Without salt, no digestion is possible.  In fact the sodium in salt works to buffer acids coming out of the stomach to help maintain the delicate pH balance of the body fluids.  It is no coincidence that your body is salted with sodium which helps keep us in an alkalized state. 

Our bodies have nearly 100 trillion cells in them and need to be positively charged in order to function properly.  By eating and drinking unrefined sea salt daily, you can keep your cells fully charged for 24 hours.  So the most important thing you can do is throw away your white salt (poison), and replace it with natural sea salt!
